Forget the phone- who has time for small talk anymore anyway? Texting is an easy way to contact friends & potential girlfriends to check in or make plans. Etiquette is important in these interactions though. Follow these tips to keep your texting in check.
1. Fun Zone: A text is a fun way to reach out to friends, not a forum for a serious conversation. When a serious talk is in order, use texting as a way to set a time to talk in person.
2. Incessant Vibration: The only thing more annoying then a beep of a text is the constant beeps of texts! While involved in a texting conversation, be courteous to others & set your phone to silent.
3. Proof Read: Read through your text before sending to ensure it makes sense or use the auto-word feature. This is especially important to avoid sounding ridiculous.
4. Brevity: If you have volumes to say, call or send an email. No one likes run-on non-sense.
5. Ignore & Annoy: It is in poor taste to ignore company while engaged in long text banter. If you receive a text during this time, let the caller know you are occupied & when you’ll be free to chat.
6. Come On: When texting a potential date, a simple “Hello, how are you?” is enough. Wait patiently for her response. If she writes & appreciates you thinking of her, proceed ahead. If you get no response, try calling once, then retreat. No one likes a stalker...
7. Stalker: A new acquaintance will be weary if you text constantly. Keep it to a minimum, make sure the conversation is reciprocated, & think your comments through before writing.
8. Respect her time: If she’s busy or working & can’t write back quickly that’s OK. Be patient & don’t blow up her phone.
9. Have plan Don’t drive someone’s cell bill through the roof with tons of unsolicited messages. Find out if she has a text plan & wants to chat in this manner.
10. Drunk-text: We all know the rule about drunk-dialing, right? Same rule applies here, ladies! Remember, once you hit ‘send’ you can’t take it back!
Remember, Texts don’t replace actual conversations. Make one-on-one time for the people in your life.
